In Serres, one of bigger towns in Byzantine Macedonia, and strategically located on the route to Thessaly, the metropolitan church dedicated to the Sts Theodores was mosaicked. A major fire in 1849 caused a lot of damage to the building and what mosaic survives (notably the Communion of the Apostles) is now in museums in the town.
