On Mount Athos, that centre of Byzantine monasticism: at the Monastery of Vatopedi, there is a mosaic panel depicting the Deesis above the main door may well have been an eleventh-century creation. However, almost no mosaic survives from Athos, in contrast to wall painting.

This is one I haven’t seen and won’t ever see. Mt Athos is barred to women.
